The Karen National League, as a non-armed Karen organization, seeks to uplift the lot of the Karen people and bring about the rule of law and true democracy to Burma. It engages in any and all lawful activities incidental to the foregoing purposes.

MEMBERSHIP PROCEDURES
New Membership Criteria:

Any Karen organization,

• that aims to work for the overall development of all Karen people regardless of religion, residence and dialect;
• that does not encourage, support or participate in any activities, either in the forms of propaganda or financially, that are indirectly or directly detrimental to the unity of Karen people;
• that agrees with the existing policies and plans laid down by the General Conference of the Karen National League that is held every 3 years can apply and be considered for preliminary membership of KNL.

Steps to become a member organization:

1. Any Karen (social, cultural and political) organization that wants to become a member organization of KNL must officially apply for it in written through the head of the organization. In the application, it must clearly state that such application has majority consensus within the organization.
2. Any individual person who wants to join will be encouraged to join an organization that is presently part of KNL or start up an organization so that that organization can apply to join KNL.
3. The KNL Board of Director, at any appropriate meeting, can make a preliminary decision on whether to accept or reject the application.
4. Final approval or disapproval of membership status must be made only by and at the KNL General Conference convened every three-year.
