The Karen National League, as a non-armed Karen organization, seeks to uplift the lot of the Karen people and bring about the rule of law and true democracy to Burma. It engages in any and all lawful activities incidental to the foregoing purposes.

The First General Conference of Karen National League was held on July 15-17, 1999 in Perth, Australia. The Conference resolves to expand the work of the organization by adding Woman Concern Division to existing KNL structure. The following Central Executive Committee and Advisory Council were elected to be the leaders of KNL in the next three-year term.
