21 October 2005 Explosion heard near Myanmar hotel, area sealed off
YANGON - A small explosion took place in front of a luxury hotel on Friday evening in the Myanmar capital Yangon, but there appeared to be no casualties, witnesses said. The explosion took place at about 6:30 p.m. local time, and appeared to have originated next to a signboard on a small lawn next to the Traders Hotel, said several vendors who were nearby. The witnesses, who asked not to be identified, said they did not see any persons hurt by the blast. They were uncertain exactly what caused the explosion. Security forces, including armed soldiers, sealed off the area along Sule Pagoda Road, one of Yangon’s busiest thoroughfares, and appeared to be inspecting the site. No officials were available to speak to journalists, who were kept away from the scene.
