Explosion seen outside Rangoon hotel Mizzima News (www.mizzima.com) October 21, 2005 A small explosion occurred outside the luxury Traders Hotel in Rangoon at about 6:30pm this evening but caused no casualties according to reports from several wire services. Witnesses who arrived at the scene immediately after the blasts told Mizzima the explosion occurred on the lawn outside the front of the hotel. Some said a second blast also occurred not long after the first. An Associated Press report said security forces and armed military personnel, sealed off an area around the hotel, which is on the central Sule Pagoda road. The report said the explosion was small and quotes witnesses as saying there appeared to be no casualties. A report from Reuters said a police spokesperson confirmed no damage was done to the building but would not say whether the explosion was caused by a bomb or not. Security has been tight in the Burmese capital since May this year when a series of bombs were detonated in department stores, killing 23 and wounding 162.
